Highlights of the 20th All Bengal SPELLINC Competition 2019-20

SPELLINC is an initiative by Linc Pen and Plastics Limited that provides a platform for students to display their prowess in the English language. Covering both spelling and vocabulary, it is held annually garnering great participation from schools and students.

Started in 1999, Spellinc has grown in popularity and stature due to the strong foundation it was established on. Today, it covers over 1500 schools across 11 cities and has become a national event in its journey spanning over 2 decades.

The platform acts as a catalyst for students to practice and use correct English and be mindful of their spellings. Many academicians have defined SPELLINC as a worthy initiative for the subtle push it gives, leading towards a well-spoken and well-read community.  Through this flagship event, Linc encourages more participation across all schools (with a variety of medium of instructions, levels and number of students) while doing its bit for a more inclusive society and encouraging the youth of today.

Following are the highlights of this year’s edition.

Summary of the 2019-20 SPELLINC Competition Organized By Linc

The 2019-20 edition of SPELLINC saw the presence of over 65,000 students competing across 79 schools. The response from North Bengal had been particularly gratifying. Ranging from classes V to VIII, students gave it their best shot. This year we initiated a wild card entry round for students who could not participate through their schools.

We are proud to share the on boarding of British Council as our Knowledge Partner. They gave deeper insight to help raise the proficiency of the students. Listed below are some of the schools that participated at this year’s event:

• La Martiniere for Boys - Kolkata
• Lakshipat Singhania
• Birla High for Boys
• Delhi Public School
• Sri Shikshayatan School
• Kendriya Vidyalaya
• St. James School
• Don Bosco School, etc.

The Semi-Final was held on 25th January at Shri Shikshayatan School while the Finale was held on the 1st of February at the National Library. The finale saw Riddhima Somaiya from the British Council as the anchor and quizmaster.

Gripping and engaging rounds such as Spell and Tell, Crosswords and Rapid Fire left the audiences glued to their seats as the contestants displayed great efficiency and energy at every stage of the competition.  The following students emerged victorious.

With the grand finale drawing to a close, the Managing Director and CEO of Linc Pen and Plastics Limited, Mr. Deepak Jalan, addressed the students and august audience .Here’s what he had to say:

“We are very proud to contribute to the development of the student fraternity and organize an event of such magnitude for so many years. The response at every stage has been nothing short of overwhelming and I congratulate all the participating schools, each and every participating student and of course the eventual winners. We promise to return with a more engaging and exciting format in the years to come.”

The stiff competition of SPELLINC coupled with the educative role it plays makes it a highly anticipated event.  Offering a great window of opportunity, it offers students a well-established avenue to display their proficiency and strength in English while simultaneously helping their peers to improve. SPELLINC is not just an  inter-school competition - it is a chance for every student  to up his game while inspiring others to do the same.

Keeping the above in mind, SPELLINC 2020-2021 comes with the promise of being bigger , better and grander.
